Room to dream about

I found this photo on another blog and now I have no idea where that is or who the designer is, sad.  I can tell you that if there was Shampure candle in this room, I'd lock myself in and never leave.

We decided to keep it and I'm glad I love this armoire!

The black armoire that was left abandoned, sad and alone at the old Sunlight house made it's journey here to Discovery Court and is moving into it's new digs in the front room.  It will be joined by one of the light fixtures we hijacked from Sunlight along with two chandeliers that I adored and we took too.  The leopard chandelier shades are just dying to make an appearance and get all their leopardy goodness back in the new house.

Pottery Barn **in the house**

We picked up the slipcovered Pottery Barn loveseat to replace the cancer couch that I sold on CL.  Thank God that went quickly.  The new PB loveseat's slipcovers are currently drying in the living and I cannot wait to put the whole thing together and get this office finished finally.  It is such a nice change to have my office on the first floor, to have a breeze, a view ... ah just happy in this spot.

Neutrals - my new favorite word ~ my only word

There is no such thing as too much damask.  I'm obsessed with the material this week and every week for the past seven years.  The lamp in the photo is so bad, but the swoop of the arm on the loveseat is fantastic.

Interior Design firm houston, traditional design, contemporary design, beach house designer, The Sitting Room houston, West Alabama houston, galveston

“Keep it simple” is Ginger Barber’s motto. Her love of an uncomplicated look, paired with natural, textured materials provides the cornerstone of her delightfully harmonious designs. Ginger approaches interiors with a neutral palette. She prefers solid white, beige or a subtle repetitive pattern, and then lets nature take its course.

What to look at first in this killer room - House Beautiful

Striped floors, gingham chair, chandelier, cream, coffee table - very sophisticated Pottery Barn for grown ups.  I love the neutrals and the lack of any deep colors.

Target Linen Drapes

I am sure that the Textured Belgian Linen Drapes at Restoration Hardware are fantastic.  I just don't understand why anyone would pay that much for one curtain panel UNLESS you only have one half a window in an entire house and really want that quality.  I found a very similiar drape - ok well, it's linen at Target.  They are $24.99 each which is pricey for Target but not for linen drapes.  They have them in a 95" or 96" (can't remember and it's just an inch) size which is what I needed for our entire first floor.  I bought every panel they had in two stores.  I called first and they put them aside for me at customer service.  Yes, they are plain old taupe linen but look FABULOUS up on the rods.

Loft/Den/TV Room - what is this room?

This is the Dried Grass again looking completely green. I also learned through tons of searching that Sherwin Williams actually creates the paint for WalMart and it is their midrange quality which is about $30 a gallon in the SW stores. My biggest fear is that WalMart either discontinues the paint or the color so I bought extra. Almost 3 full gallons extra.

Too many choices and ONE chosen

After trying to decide on the Pottery Barn, Benjamin Moore collection and testing over 22 colors on 11 walls, I had it down to one Restoration Hardware shade. Then I changed my mind! Not RH Flint, Bay Laurel, Silver Sage and not even the plain old browns they have in the shade of flax ~ just nothing worked with what I had in mind. Downsizing from 3800 sf to 2200 sf was a big choice and the paint needed to be just right. I searched online and found someone's bathroom I loved in a WalMart (did you even know they had paint?) color called Dried Grass. I bought a small can and bunch of other shades to try my swatch project again. I loved the Dried Grass immediately. It was the tan/green I had been looking for forever. I also was THRILLED to see that the price of the paint was substantially less than even the big home stores in the areas (HDepot and Lowes). I spent about $250 on all the paint/supplies etc.. and I love the shade. It changes with the daylight, nighttime and it's better looking than I could imagine. I still wish I had a place for the Restoration Hardware Butter paint color b/c I think it's gorgeous. But, I committed to 4 colors in the house and 1 paint choice and I stuck to it. Editing sucks for the most part but I am happy with the outcome.

Cute living room, SL style

By Unknown with No comments

I will be at the flatirons Pottery Barn in Broomfield Colorado tomorrow at lunch buying these plates and then immediately following driving to Michaels to get shadow boxes to display them.  They are unbelievably gorgeous for reals.  I love the dipping bowls but really who uses a dipping bowl?

Pottery Barn SALE! Monogrammed! Gorgeous!!

They are on their way!  I ordered the pillow with the monogram you see on the one in the picture.  sSj - I did the green border and a taupe monogram.  I ordered two.  I was going to write zzz on both which I think is cute, maybe next time.

Candle with a starfish

This is one my favorite spots in the bathroom. I found the candle holder at Gordmans on sale, I wish now I had bought about 14 of them. I bought one. The small wooden dishes are perfect to slide into the latern. I filled the dish with bath salts (super cheap) and simply put the starfish behind the candle and the white candle right on top of the salts. I need to get a bunch more of these wood trays, they are so nice. I use the one next to the latern for earrings.

Master Bedroom

I love our bedroom. It took me a lifetime to find the proper color comforter in the right weight for the master. The lamps and mirrors on either side of the bed are my favorite outside of the Ralph Lauren leopard duvet cover I found on ebay. The euro shams are from Khols.

Master Bathroom

The paint from WalMart, Dried Grass, is everywhere in the house. In the master, it looks so green, I love that. I got that adorable zebra (brown/tan) towel box on the floor from Ross for $7.99. It fits 4 full size towels. The pictures were destined for a life in the basement but I liked them once I got them up in the bathroom. Towel hook on the glass in the shower is a new twist, but it's just so much easier to grab on the way out. Rugs from WalMart and so is the small candle tray.

Black and White Sailing in Bedroom

I love these black and white sailing photos. I used a sailing calendar that costs about $15.00. Pulled the photos that were my favorites from six of the months and had them framed in standard sized frames at a local craft store. Altogether I think the set of six cost about $50.00. It took forever to hang level and with the proper spacing. Nightmare! Turned out pretty. Yes, same lamps I have about 20 of these lamps from WalMart. They came with the shades and cost about $12.00 apiece. They are short but I love the black base and taupe linen shades.

Upstairs Office

I love this area of the house. Complete waste of space and I thought it would be a great place for the kids to have. I put in the laptop, lighitng and mirror to reflect the view of the 3 windows. The leopard bench fit perfectly against the railing and I think the kids will enjoy hanging out and playing games, online and together in this spot.

Searching for the perfect bedroom

We finally decided on a house and the bedroom is a decent size.  I have always leaned towards a lighter, softer palette in the bedroom but in the new house, I think I am going dark and dramatic.  There is tons of natural light in the house, so it might work.  This is an incredible room by Ralph Lauren.  I love the layering and the contrasts.  It's too western/mountain for our home but gorgeous.

Another Ralph that I love is this more heavy style tapestry type.  The purple and dark green are ghastly but the general feeling of the medieval I like.

My obsession with Spanish Colonial Architecture continues ...

These are my three favorite books on Spanish Colonial architecture by my favorite architects in the space.  Their designs are stunning and some of the most unique in the US.  They have a Tuscan influence, with a real California vibe and very clean and not overdone or fake.

Article link from HGTV

There is so little in print about Spanish Colonial style but this is a decent link I found about the home style/design style.

Considering paint colors

I am all over the place with colors now.  I have 3 choices from Sherwin Williams; Koi Pond, Lemongrass and San Antonio Sage.  I did the online program where you can paint a room to see how it looks and I hated all three.  They have a color visualizer program that is really amazing.  I'm also contemplating Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware colors as well.  I put the Pottery Barn and Restoration on the walls leading to the basement and didn't really like any of those.  They look better in the catalog for sure.

Selling Sunlight Lane

The house is for sale and we are packing to move to our new home in Westminster.  Anticipated move date is 4/15/2010.  That gives us two weeks to prepare the house before we actually move in.
